Your file stays on your device
The pages are drawn in this page, using your browser’s own processing. The document is not sent to a server, nothing is stored, and there is no account to create. Closing the tab is all the cleanup there is.
One thing does travel, and it is worth being exact about: a PDF that leaves out a common font, or that stores characters through a shared encoding table — a Japanese, Chinese or Korean document, usually — needs that table to be drawn correctly. Those tables are downloaded from this site when a document needs one. They travel to your browser; your document never travels anywhere.
How to use it
- Drop in a PDF, or choose one from your device. The tool reads it straight away and measures every page.
- Pick JPG or PNG, then a size. Each size is labelled with the pixel dimensions your largest page will actually come out at, so you are choosing a real number rather than a word.
- Check the list of files the tool says it will produce, press Render, and download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
One PDF at a time, up to 50 MB and 200 pages. Choosing another file replaces the one on screen.
JPG or PNG?
JPG is the right default. It stores the page as a photograph would be stored, which makes the files several times smaller, and on a page of ordinary text or photographs the difference is not visible at normal size.
PNG stores every pixel exactly. That matters on pages made of hard edges — diagrams, charts, screenshots, engineering drawings, a table with thin rules — where JPG can leave a faint halo around the lines, and it matters if the image will be enlarged or edited afterwards. The files are usually several times larger.
What the resolution actually means
A PDF has no pixels in it. Its pages are measured in points — 1/72 of an inch — and the number of pixels only exists once something draws it. That is what dpi decides: at 150 dpi, an A4 page becomes 1240 × 1754 pixels; at 300 dpi, 2480 × 3508.
- Screen, 96 dpi — for a page going into an email, a web page or a slide, where it will be looked at rather than printed.
- Standard, 150 dpi — a reasonable middle. Readable when enlarged a little, and still a sensible file size.
- Print, 300 dpi — for a page that is going to be printed, or that someone will zoom into. The files are much larger.
The sizes are worked out from your own document, not from a standard page, so a wide-format drawing shows the large numbers it really produces.
A size that will not fit is refused, not shrunk
There is a limit to how big a single image a browser can draw, and an oversized one does not fail loudly — it comes back blank. So a resolution your document cannot take is shown greyed out with the size it would have needed, rather than quietly producing something smaller than the one you asked for or, worse, an empty picture you would only notice after opening the file.
What you get, and what you do not
Each image is a picture of the page exactly as it appears — the layout, the fonts, the tables and the images, drawn at the size you chose. That also means the text inside it stops being text: you cannot search, select or copy from an image. If it is the words you are after, Extract Text from PDF reads them instead. Password-protected PDFs cannot be rendered.
Downloading the images
Every page gets its own download link, named after your document with a padded page number — statement-page-01.jpg, statement-page-02.jpg — so they stay in page order in any folder. If there is more than one page there is also a ZIP containing all of them; browsers block a page that starts several downloads in a row, so the ZIP is the reliable way to take a long document away in one go.

Turning pages into pictures to get at the numbers?
Exporting pages as images is the right answer when you need to show a document. It is the wrong shape when what you actually need is a spreadsheet — the supplier, the invoice number, the date and the total from each of forty PDFs, one row per document. That is the part ExtractToExcel does: you name the columns you want, and each PDF comes back as a row in an Excel workbook. It reads scanned documents too.
